Grande Cache Coal Corporation (GCC) is a sustainable, long-term mining operation that produces premium, low volatile, metallurgical coking coal for export to the world steel industry. We have both underground and open-pit mining operations. The mine site is located 20 kilometers north of the town of Grande Cache. A community of nearly 4,000 within the inner foothills of the Rocky Mountains in west-central Alberta. GCC is seeking experienced, motivated and safety-committed individuals for permanent, full-time positions at its' non-union mine site. GCC offers a competitive compensation and benefit package including relocation assistance.
SAFETY / TRAINING COORDINATOR - MINE OPERATIONS
Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, you will be responsible for:
- Producing lesson plans and administering lessons on specific pieces of mine equipment as well as tracking and reporting results;
- Completing safety hazard assessments;
- Follow up and communication of safety issues with site foremen;
- Planning with maintenance and operations for the coordination of training programs;
- Delivering mine site orientation;
- Coordinating with outside agencies for training programs.
To qualify you must have:
- Good communication, interpersonal and teaching skills;
- Flexibility and able to multi-task;
- Familiarity with open pit mine operations and equipment;
- Excellent computer skills for developing presentations / Microsoft suite of programs;
- Equipment operating experience is an asset. Familiarity with working components is ideal.
This position will work a 5 x 2 or 4 x 3 day shift.
WELDERS
GCC has opportunities in our plant and surface mine operations. Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman, Welders are responsible for repair of equipment, both mobile and stationary, structural welding and fabrication.
You must have a valid Alberta or Inter-provincial welding trade qualification. Industrial maintenance experience is required, preferably in mining or a similar environment. The ability to read blue prints is a definite asset.
ELECTRICIANS
Opportunities exist in our underground, surface and plant operations. Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, Electricians are responsible for maintenance, alteration, repair and testing of electrical and electronic systems and components. This includes processing equipment or working on large mobile equipment.
You will have a valid Alberta or Interprovincial electrical trade qualification with an understanding of distributed control systems, programmable logic controls and microprocessors. Excellent troubleshooting skills are required. Underground experience is an asset for positions within our underground operations. These positions will appeal to people with a mining, forestry or construction background.
HEAVY DUTY MECHANICS
Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman, Heavy Duty Mechanics are responsible for the repair and maintenance of some of the world's largest mobile mining equipment including graders, loaders, dozers and ancillary equipment. Duties include the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, replace and maintain equipment following OEM and Company procedures.
These are excellent opportunities for trades people with Alberta or Interprovincial Tickets and are ideally suited to individuals with previous open pit mining experience, forestry, farming or transport experience, or to automotive mechanics interested in expanding their skills. Shifts are based on a six-day-on/six-day-off rotation allowing for excellent work/life balance.
MILLWRIGHTS
Reporting to the Mechanical Foreman, opportunities exist in both underground and plant operations. Millwrights are responsible for the maintenance of stationary equipment including inspection, repair and installation of mechanical and hydraulic components.
You must have a valid Alberta or Interprovincial Millwright trade qualification. Industrial maintenance experience is required and welding experience is an asset. Underground experience is an asset for positions within our underground operations.
SURFACE MINING ENGINEER
GCC has a exciting opportunity for an ambitious, motivated person. You will be responsible for the design, planning and scheduling of surface mining activity to ensure compliance is within geotechnical parameters and that Company and regulatory (HSE) standards, policies and procedures are maintained. Additional responsibilities include designing all facets of mine activity including production, waste handling and reclamation, tracking day-to-day production statistics, providing engineering technical support to mine operations, liaising with government representatives, consultants and other stakeholders, conducting project work encompassing planning, estimating, bid processing and contract administration as well as assisting with mine equipment acquisition and budget preparation.
The successful candidate will have a degree in Mining (B.Eng.) with recent experience in a surface mining environment. Underground experience is an asset. Well developed computer skills including proficiency with AutoCAD, mine design software and with Microsoft Office suite of products is essential. Sound knowledge of mining and HSE regulations, mine design principles and associated operational methods (roadways, drilling, blasting, waste removal and extraction) is expected. Solid leadership, time management and communication skills are essential to the success of this position.
MINING TECHNICIAN
GCC is seeking an efficient and safety-committed Mining Technician. Reporting to the Mine Manager, you will be involved with and responsible for underground surveying, ventilation measurements, collecting samples and maintaining databases.
You must have a Mining Technician Diploma, be computer literate with MS Windows suite of programs as well as a background with mining software.
MOBILE CRANE OPERATOR
GCC is looking for a certified Mobile Crane Operator with the following qualifications:
- Interprovincial or Alberta Journeyman Certified Mobile Crane Ticket;
- Experience with 65 to 160 ton cranes;
- Ability to operate other equipment including dozers, loaders and backhoes;
- Ability to work in a team environment.
This position will be involved site wide and include significant variety of work.
UNDERGROUND MINING ENGINEER

As an Underground Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, planning and scheduling of underground mining activity to ensure compliance is within geotechnical parameters and that Company and regulatory (HSE) standards, policies and procedures are maintained. UNDERGROUND MINERS
GCC is looking for production people for our underground operations. Previous underground mining experience, particularly coal mining, is an asset however, we will train safety minded individuals who demonstrate excellent work ethics and attitude. These positions involve labour and equipment operations with excellent opportunities for advancement.
